House Music
Where it originated from:

House is a style of electronic dance music that originated in Chicago, Illinois, USA in the early 1980s. It was initially popularized in mid-1980s discotèques catering to the African-American Latino-American, and gay communities; first in Chicago, then in Detroit, New York City, New Jersey, and Miami. It then reached Europe before becoming infused in mainstream pop and dance music worldwide since the early to mid-1990s.

What the music represents:

House is a descendant of disco, which blended Soul, R&B, Funk, with celebratory messages about dancing, love, and sexuality, all underpinned with repetitive arrangements and a steady bass drum beat. Some disco songs incorporated sounds produced with synthesizers and drum machines, and some compositions were entirely electronic; examples include Giorgio Moroder late 1970s productions such as Donna Summer’s hit single “I Feel Love" from 1977, and several early 1980s disco-pop productions by the Hi-NRG group Lime.

Lyrics

House music does not really have many lyrics with the music.  If there is then they are usually about a positive message such as love or sexuality.
The lyrics are usually with samples or spoken lines rather than sung lyrics.

Questionnaire

I am now going to put a questionnaire together to help me with my magazine project. This will allow me to gather information on the target market and get a flavour of what people want. By doing this i will hopefully get a knowledge off what people like and dislike in a magazine.

In addition to this a questionnaire will help me narrow down my audience and fit my magazine into a certain area of the market. I have chose a questionnaire over a interview as it is not only less time consuming but also the answer are quicker to read and i can gather more information this way.

Introduction

I have chosen to do a print piece over a film as does it give me a wider range of people to appeal to but also a magazine is a more day to day product than a film. Following on from this a magazine is a more realist task for me as at this point in time i believe i do not have the skills acquired to put a film piece together.

I am hopeing to put an R&B type magazine together aimed at people of all ages with a taste for this particular genre of music. Firstly i am going to arange a questionaire so i can get a flavour of the market and see what people like in a magazine for example, current magazines they read and why. Next i am going to anaylse and review three current products and also do some background research into magazines. Once all these things are completed i am going to consider my competition and find a USP ( unique selling point). Then i am going to start assembling my product showing a step by step guide form start to finish and hopefully fit the brief.
